Surprisingly, “Six Days At Ronnie Scott’s: Billy Cobham On Jazz Fusion and The Act Of Creation” is the first book written about Bill Cobham. The 191-page book is a fascinating insight into the life and work of the legendary, ground-breaking and genre-defining drummer. Presented largely as an oral history, it includes interviews with Bill, Faina Cobham [Bill’s wife], Wayne Cobham [Bill’s younger brother], Guy Barker, Mark Mondesir, Carl Orr, Paul Pace [Ronnie Scott’s], Jan Hammer, Randy Brecker, Paul Price [Cover designer], Michael Watt [Co-owner of Ronnie Scott’s], Mike Hobart [saxophonist/journalist], Ron Carter, Steve Hamilton, Michael Mondesir, Bill Bruford, Santiago Roberts [drum tech] and Gregg Kofi Brown. Drumhead spoke to the author, Brian Gruber, just a few days after he launched the book at the legendary London jazz club, during Bill’s week-long residency with the Guy Barker Big Band.
