It’s a Drum-off: Chad Smith vs. Will Ferrell
It’s actually happening. After months of speculation following a highly publicized and very serious online confrontation, Red Hot Chili Peppers’s drummer, Chad Smith, and comedic movie superstar Will Farrell will face-off in a must-see Drum Off to resolve the ongoing argument over who is the better drummer. The event is scheduled to take place live on "The Late Night Show starring Jimmy Fallon" Thursday, May 22nd, after the two celebrities exceeded the requested donation goal of $300,000 for Cancer for College and Little Kids Rock, in order for the battle to occur.
"We're going to have a drum off to see who the real Chad Smith is," the real Chad Smith tells Rolling Stone. "I'm all for it. But unless Will's been practicing or is secretly a crazy, wild drummer, I think it'll be evident right off the bat who the real Chad Smith is. I'm ready to take him down."
Smith continues, "I believe they'll be some cowbell involved," revealed Smith. "And that's what worries me. He might try to win everybody over with his whole cowbell thing. I might have to wrestle and tackle him."
Although both Smith and Ferrell have both suffered from mistaken identities for the past several years, the two have only met once, when Ferrell approached Smith in 2000 after a showing of "The Ladies Man" and said, "You're very handsome," before walking away.
While prizes will be offered at a later date to raise money for the two charities, including a specially designed T-shirt and custom-designed cowbells, Chad Smith also revealed a personal side bet. "If I win, he has to wash my car for a month and give me pedicures," says the drummer. "If I lose, I have to be his stand-in for his next film."
