12 Media Music, a new joint venture between legendary drummer/producer Tony Coleman and composer/producer Erick Gilbertson, officially opens its new purpose-built A room in Portland, Oregon.
For Tony, producing has been a serious passion for many years. His most recent project (Ana Popovic’s Can You Stand the Heat) garnered a USA Today “Pick of the Week” accolade and reached #3 on the Billboard Blues Chart. This clearly shows that Tony is hitting his stride as a talented and successful producer. The timing could not be better – Erick Gilbertson, who is a veteran of the sync/library industry and composed for film, television and ad placement for many years, has been developing a world-class studio to nurture new artists and see new projects through from concept to completion. A meeting in 2012 resulted in this beautiful, expertly-designed and fully-equipped Northwest facility.
The heart of the studio is built around SSL analog summing and conversion; Alpha-Link, XDesk and XRack modules feed a purposely-overbuilt PC Audio Labs i7 DAW running Pro Tools and Sonar platforms. Outboard gear includes a cherry-picked selection from Neve, Manley, API, EL, Buzz Audio, UA, Avalon, SSL, Teletronix, Eventide, Phoenix and Drawmer. A pedigree list of microphones can be found in the studio locker, featuring examples from Neumann, Peluso, Earthworks, Soundelux, Telefunken and many more – including a rare Klaus Heyne-modified AKG C12 from 1953. Instruments and amplification options include Taylor, Gibson, Fender, Vox, Mesa, Orange, Korg, and Roland. A lovely Yamaha C3 grand piano fills out the studio’s primary room.
