Pearl Artist and world-renowned snare drummer, Jeff Queen, has been on the road this spring, traveling across the country, sharing his knowledge of marching percussion with the masses. Queen’s first stop was the Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra Percussion Extravaganza: “Heart Beats,” hosted by Vicki Jenks at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. This clinic was presented in conjunction with the American Red Cross, with 20% of the Extravaganza’s proceeds being donated to the local ARC chapter. Queen presented a masterclass to attending percussionists, and performed “Cuban Concerto” with the WYSO’s percussion section, featuring guest dancer Claudia Sol, for a crowd 300+ strong.
Queen’s next stop was the Utah PAS Day of Percussion, hosted by Kelly Wallis and Jed Blodgett at Juan Diego High School, Draper, UT. The Day featured various percussion activities, including both a Solo and Ensemble competition, as well as clinics and performances from the Utah Winter Drumline Association, Utah Pipe Band, Drum Labs Steel band, and the Faculty Percussion Ensemble. Guest clinicians and ensembles performed throughout the day, culminating in a Final Concert that featured the competition winners and select guest artists. At the conclusion of the event, over $3,000 in door prizes and give-away items were handed out to participating students and ensembles.
Support of Jeff’s clinic activities is part of Pearl’s continuing efforts to improve the quality and accessibility of music education to students of all ages and backgrounds.
